Fischer and Busby successful at Finnish Open

This weekend, 7th - 9th of October, the last IWT tournament of 2016 was played in Helsinki in Finland. With a new venue – Finland Tennis Club – with high quality courts in every sport, a hotel in walking distance, good catering, shuttle and stringing service, but a tough time schedule the Finnish Open 2016 ended as an overall well organised tournament!

The Men A final was a quite comfortable win for Dan Busby from Great Britain who took is third international title in singles over Swedish Mikael Rehn. Jesper Hougaard from Denmark became third.
In the Women A Round Robin draw Lilian Druve (SWE) and Nicole Eisler (SWI) became third and second while German Amke Fischer took the gold medal (credit: Loong). She also won the Mixed A with Duncan Stahl from Great Britain.
The Men´s Double went to the Swedish couple Mikael Rehn and Bengt Sonnert.


5 titles for the host country Finland

With Anna Wall (Women B), Tuomo Kekoni/Anton Savolainen (Men B doubles), Mikko Kaskama (Men C), Jukka-Pekka Nieminen (Seniors +55) and Luka Penttinen (Juniors U21) Finland presented itself as a successful host country.
Another title for Great Britain went to Mark Steeden in the Men´s B. Seniors +40 was won by Latvian Uldis Dzirklais while Magnus Edby from Sweden took gold in the Seniors +45. The only Seniors Doubles category (+45) was dominated by the Czech couple Richard Hobzik/Milan Stupavsky.
